Sea Bears Take Their Four-Game Win Streak on the Road to Face Vancouver in a First-Place Matchup

June 26, 2026

Winners of four straight, Winnipeg heads west for a rematch with the Bandits, and a chance to own first place outright.

The Winnipeg Sea Bears (8-4) hit the road Saturday night for a pivotal Western Conference matchup against the Vancouver Bandits, tipping off at 8:00 p.m. CT. Winners of four straight, Winnipeg enters the game tied with Vancouver atop the West, meaning every possession Saturday night carries standings weight.

It is the second meeting between these clubs this season, and Vancouver will be looking for answers after the first one. Back on June 18, the Sea Bears rolled into Canada Life Centre and handed the Bandits a 114-81 loss. A 33-point statement that announced Winnipeg as a legitimate contender for first. The Bandits' roster looks different this time around, most notably with the departure of Jaelen House, who torched Winnipeg for 42 points in that game, more than half of Vancouver's total output on his own. Despite House's big night, it wasn't enough to keep Vancouver in it. With him gone, the Bandits will need to find new answers.

There is an added wrinkle heading into Saturday: Head Coach Kyle Julius is serving a three-game suspension and will not be on the bench. For a team in a first-place battle, it is a real test of the culture the coaching staff has built. Head Coach Mike has made clear the message inside the locker room hasn't changed. "I think the one thing that the guys have done a really good job of all season is just concentrating on what needs to get done next," he said. "Realizing that previous games or previous seasons don't necessarily have any indicator in terms of how the game's gonna go. Just what are the things that we could get better at, what are the things that we expect them to do, continue to work and try to move forward."

The biggest boost heading into Saturday may be the return of Emmanuel Akot, who has been out with an injury and is expected back in the lineup. His presence gives Winnipeg another versatile weapon, one who can guard one through five on any given possession. "At the end of the day, I love to play basketball, there's nothing better than that," Akot said. "Seeing these guys every day, all they've been working, we've been playing really well, just to help them and contribute to winning means a lot." Asked about his mindset returning from injury, Akot didn't hesitate: "I'm fully confident already. I think just playing as hard as possible, not worrying too much about mistakes, everything will take care of itself."

Mike spoke to how much Akot's return elevates the group. "He was playing at such an elite level before he got hurt, and he's so important to the way that we play, his ability to play multiple spots and defensively be a pest. We're super excited to have him back."

Isiah Osborne, who has averaged more than 20 points per game at home since joining the club, is under no illusions about what Saturday's atmosphere will feel like. "Obviously they're not happy with how we beat them last time, so they're gonna come out a lot harder," he said. "Whether they have everyone or whoever they put on the court, we're gonna come out and play our hardest. We're just excited for the next game." Akot echoed the sentiment: "The battle for first place is going to be tough wherever you play. I'm expecting them to bring their best, and we're going to bring our best game."
