Winnipeg Sea Bears Community Initiatives

Sea Bears Youth Camps

The Sea Bears are committed to growing the game by running youth basketball camps that offer high-quality instruction at a low cost. By keeping fees affordable, we aim to remove financial barriers and ensure more kids have access to the sport they love.

Our camps are designed to build skills, confidence, and community, both on and off the court.

Community Games

In 2024, the Sea Bears proudly hosted a series of themed games, including Indigenous Peoples Day, Pride Night, and Filipino Heritage Night, as part of our commitment to building a more inclusive and connected community. These events celebrated the cultures, identities, and stories that make our city vibrant, using the power of basketball to bring people together.

Indigenous Peoples Day Basketball Camps

In 2024, we had the privilege of hosting four basketball camps for Indigenous youth from across rural areas of Manitoba and right here in our city. It was an incredible day of building relationships, working on basketball skills and strengthening our community.

Pride Winnipeg

The Sea Bears have proudly attended Pride Winnipeg for the past three years, supporting the 2SLGBTQ+ community. Each year, our team, staff, and mascot join the parade to celebrate love, inclusion, and the vibrant spirit of our city. We’re committed to creating a safe and welcoming environment, on the court and in the community, for everyone.

Dream Factory Visits

The Sea Bears were honoured to welcome kids and families from The Dream Factory to drop in at practice and spend time with the team. These visits are a reminder of the joy and strength that sport can bring, and we're proud to share unforgettable moments with such inspiring young kids.

Court Refurbishments

The Sea Bears teamed up with community partner Buckets & Borders to refurbish local basketball courts and help create safe, vibrant spaces for youth to play and connect. Together, we're investing in the future of the game by improving access and strengthening community through the power of basketball.

Representation in Sport Panel

The Sea Bears were proud to host a panel featuring local Indigenous women who shared their powerful perspectives on representation in sport. The conversation highlighted the importance of visibility, inclusion, and creating space for Indigenous voices in athletic communities. It was an inspiring and meaningful dialogue that deepened our understanding and strengthened our commitment to reconciliation through sport.
