Sea Bears Fall to Brampton 88-86 on a Night to Remember for Allen and Akot
Teddy Allen set a franchise record for most rebounds in a single season, and Emmanuel Akot reached 500 career CEBL points, but the Brampton Honey Badgers edged the Winnipeg Sea Bears 88-86 in target score time Saturday afternoon at Canada Life Centre.
Xavier Moon hit 28 points,while Allen poured in 29 despite picking up his fourth foul in the third quarter and sitting out most of that period, before ultimately fouling out in target score time. Sean East II carried Brampton with 38 points, proving to be the difference.
The milestones were a bright spot on a tough afternoon. Allen's rebounding numbers this season now stand alone as the best in Sea Bears history. Akot, finishing with nine points, quietly crossed 500 career regular season points in the CEBL, joining a select group of players to reach that mark in league history.
Moon shouldered the scoring load when Allen sat with foul trouble and delivered. "With him not on the court, the scoring load is more on me," Moon said. "I was just being myself." He finished with 28 points, six assists, and five rebounds, and kept his assessment of target score time simple: "It's an easy fix. We just got to lock in going down the stretch in the fourth and put teams away."
Coach Mike Raimbault credited his group's fight despite the result. "I was impressed with the resilience of our group," he said. "We did a much better job of withstanding our scoring droughts and doubling down on the defensive end." With a stretch of rest ahead before the final games of the regular season, Raimbault kept the focus forward: "Every game is crucial. Every opportunity we have to improve is important for our group."
Winnipeg falls to 13-9 on the season.
