Sea Bears Announce Game Day Production Talent for 2023 Season
WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Sea Bears of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced their game day production talent on Thursday. The group brings decades of television, radio and journalism experience covering basketball and other sports at the collegiate and professional levels.
Alex Sannie and Malaikah Rang’inya will partner up to rally fans as in-game hosts. Both entering the CEBL from the music industry, with Sannie boasting 20 years of experience as an award-winning producer, radio host and live performer.
Voicing the public address (PA) will be John Gaudes and Darrin Bauming. Gaudes, a born and raised Winnipeg basketball fan, has worked extensively with the University of Manitoba Bisons over the last ten years as a PA announcer, sports information coordinator and game day writer while also covering the Toronto Raptors as an editor of SB Nation's Raptors HQ. Bauming brings a decade of television and radio experience covering professional hockey and football for TSN, now lending his voice to his hometown’s newest sports franchise.
Sannie, Rang'inya, Gaudes and Bauming will join Winnipeg's lineup of CEBL+ broadcasting talent, which was announced by the league in a release on May 19.
Reporting from the sideline will be Joey Slattery. The Timmins, ON local brings 10 years of journalism experience with CTV news, where he currently covers sports for CTV Winnipeg.
Dave Crook will serve as broadcast analyst, offering his 47 years of basketball experience to CEBL fans. The current University of Winnipeg athletic director spent a decade as a coach with the Canadian national team program and served as a university head coach for 27 years with stops at Mount Allison, Lethbridge and Winnipeg.
Christian Aumell will voice the play-by-play commentary. Hailing from Owen Sound, ON, Aumell served as the play-by-play voice of the Western University Mustangs as a broadcast journalism student before bringing his voice to the Winnipeg Wesmen in 2016. Aumell continues to call Wesmen games today while also covering Winnipeg sports on 680 CJOB radio.

A league created by Canadians for Canadians with a mission to develop Canadian players, coaches, sports executives, and referees, the CEBL boasts the highest percentage of Canadian players of any pro league in the country with 71 percent of its 2022 rosters being Canadian. Players bring experience from the NBA, NBA G League, top international pro leagues, the Canadian National team program, and top NCAA programs as well as U SPORTS.
