Winnipeg Sea Bears announce signing of former CEBL Champion

Mar 17, 2023

WINNIPEG – The newest member of the Canadian Elite Basketball League has announced its second signing, adding another CEBL Champion to its roster.

Shane Osayande, a 6’7’’ forward, will join the club for its inaugural season.

Osayande has an already-established connection with Chad Posthumus, the team’s first signing. The duo won the inaugural CEBL title in 2019 as members of the Saskatchewan Rattlers.

The Toronto-born athlete joins the Sea Bears after a season overseas, where he averaged 9.5 points and 11.8 rebounds with Champville of the Lebanese Division A League.

Osayande’s connection to the Prairies runs deep. The power forward played three years at the University of Saskatchewan before turning pro. In his time as a Huskie, he was named both a Canada West First Team All Star and CIS All Canadian.

Quotes:

“We are very excited to welcome Shane to the Sea Bears for our inaugural season. His experience and success in this league, especially as a former CEBL champion, will be invaluable to our team.”

Jason Smith, President, Winnipeg Sea Bears Basketball Club

“It’s always an honour and great privilege to play in the CEBL, yet alone for a brand new organization. I’m excited to see the province of Manitoba, my teammates and coaching staff, and most importantly all the great fans of the Sea Bears.”
