Sea Bears sign 2x Bandits MVP Alex Campbell

Feb 26, 2024

WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Sea Bears of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Monday that they have signed Canadian guard Alex Campbell, a four-year CEBL vet and two-time winner of the Vancouver Bandit’s Most Valuable Player award.

The addition of Campbell greatly strengthens the club’s Canadian talent and adds another veteran presence to the team. Campbell averages 11.8 points per game, 4.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists in a nine-year professional career that spans Spain, France, Finland and Canada.

“I’ve heard nothing but great things about the city of Winnipeg and how they support the team, which is always a plus when playing in the CEBL. Outside of having the opportunity to play for coach Mike Taylor before, it was a no-brainer wanting to be a part of this organization,” Campbell said.

“There truly was an electric feel in Canada life Centre when I played here last summer, and now that I’m on this side of the fence, I’m looking forward to going war with these fans and giving back the same energy and intensity they give us on the court to impact winning. Winnipeg, let’s get it!”

The Brampton, ON product excels on both sides of the ball, often ranking among his team leaders in various offensive and defensive statistical categories. The 2021 CEBL All-Canadian brings championship experience to Winnipeg, having captured the 2019 title and finals MVP honours with the Saskatchewan Rattlers.

“I am very excited to sign Alex Campbell, who has been one of my favourite CEBL players to work with. I see Alex as a great addition to our team because of his championship experience and two-way style of play,” said Sea Bears head coach and general manager, Mike Taylor.

The high IQ guard played his collegiate years at Niagara College and the University of Windsor, where he graduated an OUA All-Star after averaging 21.5 points per game in his senior season. For his full bio and statistics, please click here.

Off the court, he founded and leads Camp Campbell, a community-based initiative that uses his life story to educate and inspire youth through the game of basketball.

Campbell’s signing is the third for the Winnipeg Sea Bears this offseason. The team announced the re-signings of Chad Posthumus on Feb. 15 and Teddy Allen on Feb. 7.

“I believe Alex can be a great fit with Teddy Buckets on the wing. Alex is a high character player who will represent the Sea Bears in a first-class way. We can’t wait to welcome Alex and his family to Winnipeg!” said Sea Bears head coach and general manager, Mike Taylor.

The Sea Bears open the 2024 campaign on the road in Saskatoon, SK on May 22. They return to Winnipeg for their home opener on May 24 against the defending CEBL champions, Scarborough Shooting Stars. Season tickets and flex packs are available now.
