Sea Bears Rewrite the Record Books in Historic 109-80 Rout of Montréal

Sunday night at Canada Life Centre had history written all over it before tip-off, and Winnipeg delivered in every sense of the word. Xavier Moon stepped onto the floor as a Sea Bear for the first time, Jelani Watson-Gayle made his first home appearance since the inaugural 2023 season, and by the time the final buzzer sounded, Teddy Allen had rewritten the record books twice over.

Allen finished with 54 points on 21-of-29 shooting, knocking down nine three-pointers to tie the franchise single-game record for most three-pointers scored in a single game — one he set himself back in 2023. The performance pushed his season total to 589 points, surpassing the previous CEBL and franchise records for most points in a single season. "The game record was cool," Allen said. "We had the luxury to be up by a lot. My teammates just started finding me. It's really a credit to them, they didn't have to do that."

The credit he was passing around had a lot to do with the newest Sea Bear running the show. Moon, making his long-awaited debut after nearly a month of practice with the team, orchestrated a clinical performance with 17 points and 14 assists, reaching 200 career CEBL assists in the process. "It's been a long time coming," Moon said. "It felt great to get that first one out the way. As long as I'm getting everybody involved, I can get my points at any time."

The two wasted no time finding each other. Allen had his most open looks of the season, and Moon was the reason. "Just gravity," Allen said. "He takes a lot of pressure off me. Running the show, being a floor general, makes my job easy." Moon offered his own assessment of Allen's night: "I don't think I've ever seen that or been a part of that. It was a special night for him."

Coach Mike Raimbault praised both, while keeping the focus on the bigger picture. "We know he can score the ball," Raimbault said of Allen. "But I continue to sing his praises in terms of the leadership he's taken with our group." On Moon, he added: "There was probably a narrative about how he and Teddy could coexist, I think they both complemented each other really well tonight, and they'll continue to be difficult for teams to deal with."

Jeremiah Tilmon Jr. added 16 points and six rebounds, and D.J. Burns chipped in 12 off the bench. Winnipeg forced 22 turnovers and converted them into 33 points, with 32 more on the fast break. The Sea Bears led by as many as 38.The victory also set a new franchise record for most wins in Sea Bears history, pushing the team to 13 wins on the season.
