KidSport Manitoba proudly announces new partnership with the Winnipeg Sea Bears

Mar 01, 2024

WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Sea Bears have officially become KidSport Manitoba’s Basketball Champion, helping to remove the financial barriers in sport for kids across our province. Basketball is the fifth largest sport that KidSport supports in Manitoba. With this new partnership, we hope to help this sport continue to thrive and grow.

As KidSport Manitoba’s Basketball Champion, the Winnipeg Sea Bears are committed to helping more kids who want to play basketball get that chance. Building on the momentum of the Winter Sea Bears camp in January, kids supported by KidSport Manitoba will collaborate again with the Sea Bears and their players later this year to sink 10,000 free throws to raise $10,000! This fundraising goal would ensure that 20 kids can enjoy basketball in 2024.

KidSport is a national not-for-profit organization made up of provincial and regional chapters that provide financial assistance for registration fees to under-privileged kids aged 18 and under to participate in organized sport. In 2023, KidSport Manitoba granted $539,587, to 1,506 kids across the province. Of that number, KidSport funded grants for $50,253 to 144 kids to play baskteball alone.

KidSport believes all kids should have the opportunity to develop healthy lifestyles, no matter the financial barriers that may exist. Staying physically active helps encourage children to maintain healthy habits throughout their whole lives. The challenges that come with playing sports also teach children valuable life lessons and skills, including leadership, practice, hard work, dedication, and self-confidence.
