Sea Bears centre earns another Team Canada nod, makes first appearance in 3x3 international play

Sea Bears centre and Winnipeg's own Chad Posthumus has been named to the men’s team that is representing Canada at the FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup 2023 in Puerto Rico this weekend.

Posthumus joins a Canadian team looking to improve on its sixth place finish in the tournament last year.

“Representing Canada on the world stage is an incredible honour,” said Posthumus. “I’m extremely grateful for this opportunity and am going to do everything possible to bring home a gold medal!”

Posthumus is no stranger to representing Canada. Posthumus was a key member of the team that earned Canada World Cup qualification in 2022 and is a longstanding member of the national team. But this is his first foray into the 3x3 game at this level.

“I love how my style of play is very tailored to the 3x3 format. The physicality, emphasis on rebounding and fast pace has allowed me to excel here. This experience will also benefit my five on five game,” Posthumus said.

Pool play takes place Friday through Saturday with the medal rounds on Sunday. Team Canada’s first game is set for Friday at 5:30 p.m. CT. against Jamaica. The full matchup schedule is available on the official FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup website.

Canada’s Men's team is currently ranked 14th FIBA 3x3 Federation Rankings.
