Canadian Hip-Hop Great Kardinal Offishall to Perform at Sea Bears Home Playoff Game

Jul 28, 2023

WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Sea Bears of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Friday that Canadian platinum award-winning rapper, producer and record executive Kardinal Offishall will perform at the team’s upcoming home playoff game, which will take place on either Aug. 4 or 6.

After years of earning global respect as one of Canada’s most energetic and innovative artists, Kardinal Offishall has been a staple in the global music scene. He has collaborated on hit records such as “Beautiful” with Akon, “Just Dance” with Lady Gaga, “Numba 1” with Rihanna and made history with his monster classic “Dangerous,” which scorched to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts.

Kardinal has also added TV star to his list of titles, serving as a judge on Canada’s Got Talent alongside Howie Mandel, Lilly Singh and Trish Stratus. He has continued to be a cultural and musical ambassador for a new wave of Canadian superstars, working with the likes of Drake, K’naan, Daniel Caesar, Boi 1da and Glenn Lewis.

“Kardinal is a Canadian music legend, and we’re thrilled that he’s going to join us as we celebrate our first-ever playoff game,” said Sea Bears president Jason Smith. “He’ll add fun and excitement to what will already be an incredible day for our city.”

Kardinal will perform both pregame and halftime for Sea Bears fans, first appearing on stage from 7:30 to 8 p.m. before tip-off then again at halftime. Both performances will take place in the South Pole at Canada Life Centre (south end of the court level, which is open to all attendees). Fans who would like to get there early can enjoy discounted Bud Light and Budweiser during happy hour (7 to 7:30 p.m.) before the concert.

The Sea Bears can clinch the Western Conference’s first seed with either a win on Saturday or a Calgary Surge loss on Friday night. With a Calgary win, Winnipeg would be playing for the first seed in their final regular-season game on Saturday. The club announced a sellout of the game earlier this week, with tickets now on sale for their already-secured home playoff game. A second-place finish in the conference would place the Sea Bears as host of a play-in game on Aug. 4, whereas pole position would net a home quarterfinal against the play-in winner on Aug. 6. General sale of playoff tickets will begin Friday, July 28 at 10 a.m. For tickets, visit seabears.ca/tickets.
